BOTOX® COSMETIC FOR WRINKLES
Botox is the number ONE non-surgical aesthetic procedure performed in the United States to treat wrinkles in several places including frown lines, crow’s feet, and forehead lines. Botox has also been used to treat medical conditions such as excessive underarm sweating and TMJ disorder. You have probably heard friends or family talk about Botox, but you still have not tried it. We are here to put your fears to rest about Botox and answer the many questions or concerns you may have.
What is Botox Cosmetic and what areas can Botox Cosmetic treat?
Botox is a purified protein that is isolated from Clostridium botulinum bacterium. Botox is very effective at treating wrinkles and has been FDA approved for the treatment of wrinkles in the glabellar region (frown lines). Botox has also been used for years for wrinkles and treatment in following areas:
- Crow’s feet around the eyes
- Forehead or worry lines
- Bunny lines on the nose
- Dimpling of the chin (“peach pit” chin or peu D’Orange chin)
- Vertical neck bands
- Smoker’s lines (vertical lines around the lips)
- Eyebrow lift (arched eyebrows)
How does Botox Cosmetic work?
Botox is injected with a tiny needle into the muscle that creates the wrinkle. When Botox is injected into the muscle, it blocks the nerve impulse from reaching the muscle and as a result, the muscle is unable to contract and weakens. As the muscle weakens, the skin overlying the muscles relaxes and the wrinkles in the skin gradually soften and disappear.
Is Botox Cosmetic Safe?
Botox is a FDA approved product. Botox protein itself is not a poison. It is modified extensively in the lab to a purified form and its concentration is diluted, making it very safe. When injected properly into the muscle, it is only absorbed by the muscle and the body does not absorb the protein making it very safe.
Who administers the Botox Cosmetic?
You really should only trust a physician to administer Botox. At Anand Medical Spa, only our Physician administers the Botox. We do NOT use nurses or physician assistants.
How long does Botox Cosmetic treatment take?
It usually takes 10 minutes.
How long before I see results?
You can start seeing results anywhere from 3-10 days.
How long does Botox Cosmetic last?
Botox usually lasts up 3-4 months and sometimes longer. Some patients who have been doing Botox for a while report that over time the interval between injections can be extended to 6 months.
Is there a risk of bruising with Botox Cosmetic injections?
The risk of bruising is minimal, if at all. Please adhere to the pre-treatment instructions as this will further minimize the risk of bruising.
Dose the injection hurt?
There is a mild prick like sensation for most of our clients and therefore no sedation or anesthesia is needed usually during the procedure. Some people describe the prick like sensation similar to that of a bug bite. Although no anesthesia is usually necessary, we can either ice the area or apply topical cream to make our clients more comfortable. At Anand Medical Spa, we want to be absolutely certain that we do everything possible to make your experience with us as comfortable and pain-free as possible.
Can I go right back to work after receiving Botox Cosmetic?
Yes, you can go back to work the same day.
Is the Botox Cosmetic an authentic Allergen product?
Yes, at Anand Medical Spa, we only use authentic FDA-approved products made by Allergen. Some places may use a product bought from another country or “black market Botox” and sell it for much cheaper. Please ask our physician during your consultation how you can be certain we are using an authentic product.

BOTOX® FOR HYPERHIDROSIS AND TMJ DISORDER
Botox is also used to treat medical conditions such as Hyperhidrosis (excessive underarm or hand sweating) and facial pain, ear pain, or headaches associated with TMJ (temporomandibular joint disorder).
Botox® for Axillary Hyperhidrosis (excessive underarm sweating):
Are you constantly embarrassed by that inevitable wet patch under your arm? Do you dread being out in the summer time with your friends?
Botox is not just for wrinkles, but it is also used for hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating ) of the underarms and hand. Botox works by temporarily paralyzing the nerves that stimulate sweat glands. Botox is very effective (about 80-90% reduction in sweating) for hyperhidrosis. You no longer have to dread those social engagements or business meetings any longer.
Botox® for TMJ (Temporomandibular Joint) Disorder:
Botox also treats other medical conditions such as pain from TMJ (temporomandibular joint) disorder. Your TMJ is the joint that allows you to open and close your mouth. Due to grinding our teeth or clenching our mouth when we are stressed, over time the muscles that control our TMJ such as the masseter and temporalis muscles often go into spasm resulting in pain in the lower face and also headaches. The masseter muscle is located at the angle of the jaw and is the main muscle that is involved in chewing. The overuse of this muscle from clenching or grinding your teeth also causes a change in the appearance of the lower face to a more boxed appearance. Since the muscle is being overworked, it begins to enlarge or hypertrophy just as your biceps enlarge when you lift weights. The stronger the muscle gets, the more damage that clenching and grinding your teeth causes. In addition, the facial pain, ear pain and headaches worsen. Botox helps to alleviate the spasm in these muscles relieving you of that horrible pain and restoring your natural facial structure.
