Sunrise Boone, NC
Two weeks ago I took a week off from work and went to a place I never heard of called Boone in North Carolina for a silent mediation retreat. It was one of the most magical experiences I ever had. It gave me the opportunity not to just get better acquainted with myself at a much deeper level, but to experience nature in all its beauty and simplicity.
While I was away on this mini-journey of mine, I had a chance to go hiking barefoot in a beautiful creek full of small waterfalls, and actually stop and observe a beautiful butterfly with the perfect hue of blue just playing on the small rocks.
I also had a chance to meditate outside on a beautiful field with the perfect breeze blowing through my hair. I could not remember the last time I felt so peaceful. Lastly, I sat everyday having lunch while staring at the breathtaking views of the mountains feeling grateful and realizing how much we miss out when we are just rushing through life.
I went to visit my niece and nephew the following weekend, and decided to take a walk with them in nature around the neighborhood. Every flower patch we passed, my niece would stop to say how beautiful the flowers were and sniff them with her little nose. Although I did not have a chance to capture this beautiful moment in a picture, I do remember how much joy she expressed doing something so simple.
Going on this trip and spending time with my niece and nephew reminded me of how I need to slow down enough to just enjoy the beauty of nature and appreciate all that surrounds me. I often find that we get so caught up with work, family, and social obligations that we forget to focus on the one person that matters most and that is YOU. I invite you to join me in doing one thing everyday that brings joy into your life. It can be as simple as taking a walk at lunchtime, stopping to smell the flowers, or listening to your favorite songs! If you need motivation, see below…
