Last week, I spoke about the importance of collagen in preventing the aging process and how Ultherapy can help you boost your collagen. If you are not ready to invest in this revolutionary, non-invasive procedure, there are several products you can use in the meantime that may help you boost your collagen (although not as effectively as Ultherapy does).
I have had several of my clients ask me if they can apply topical collagen or take collagen supplements? The answer is NO. Collagen is a very large molecule that cannot be absorbed by applying on the skin’s surface, so please don’t waste your money with any products that claim to do this. And, as far as collagen supplements, the supplements are broken down by your digestive system into smaller particles so the actual supplement is not absorbed; therefore, the production of collagen needs to be stimulated by your body.
Products that contain retinoids, growth factors and peptides can stimulate collagen production. Anand Medical Spa carries several wonderful and effective, medical-grade products that stimulate collagen production including:
- Skinmedica’s Tri-Retinol complex which stimulates collagen production via exfoliation
- Skinmedica’s TNS essential serum has over 100 growth factors and peptides that stimulate collagen production
- Revisions Intellishade which not only moisturizes and protects your skin against the damaging effects of UV A/B rays, but contains several very important peptides to stimulate collagen production
Don’t waste your time and money on over-the-counter products in large department stores that smell great, but really do not do much to help the fight against aging. Come in for a complimentary consultation to speak to me about what medical-grade products we carry is best for you!
